FAY DUTTON

About the ARTIST

 

 

January 29, 1966. Her story, Penny, was published in Formosa. Mme. Clair Chennault, widow of General Chennault of the Flying Tigers  visited Winchester for Apple Blossom and being so enamored with Fay and in particular her story, she had it published in logograms (chinese characters).  

 

Handley High School. 1972.

 

Mary Washington. Graduated with Majors in English and French. 1976.

Worked for Governor Dalton

 

North American Marketing.

 

Car Accident. December 26, 1980. On that day Fay was moving, preparing to join Stan Parrish, US Congressman's legislative staff on Capitol Hill in January 1981. 

.

It took  months for Fay to recognize her own parents.

 

March 1981 Home from Washington DC, Woodrow Wilson Rehab and  Winchester hospitals.

 

Summer of 1983 learned to walk again in Cocoa Beach Florida staying 4 months at beach front home of C Ridge White.

 

​Years of swimming to this day followed.

 

Years of being on the boards of Red Cross, Grafton, Shenandoah Arts Council and Independent Living Center (now titled Access Independence).

 

May 15, 1990 Winchester Star article. Fay Dutton on the STAR LEADERSHIP AWARDS..

 

Disabled Professional Woman of the Year Award from the Pilot Club Int'l in 1990.

 

Numerous art shows AND art awards through the 1980s and 1990s.

 

ARTIE AWARD. 1993 awarded by Shenandoah Arts Council.

 

Numerous interviews by Barry Lee on cable TV.

 

Fay Dutton at home with picture she painted in acrylic. The painting full of bold color unafraid of green in the sky, orange on the mountain, full of direction and motion suggests the power of this artist, Fay Dutton.

Large art show in late 2000 hosted by Al Toxopeus.

 

 

April 2005 Dick Family on Selma hosts a huge show of art by Fay Dutton.

 

 

Married. September 4, 2007 at the 1840 Courthouse. Former Circuit Court Clerk Mike Foreman performed the ceremony.

 

Moved!

Fay lived for  27 years  White Properties Apartments on Fairmont Ave  on the 3rd floor. For all those years Fay would carry her basket of clothes down 3 stories and then outside to the basement of an adjacent building to do her laundry. Sept 13, 2010 Fay moved out of the apartment.  Fay had the help of very good friends, Donna Knight and Bob Huntsberry and family to carry furniture down 3 flights of steps to the moving truck.

 

 

 

 

 

Knee Replacement Surgery - March 2011

 

Access Independence. Rejoined Board of Directors since November 2011. Her good friend Trish Dick, also on that Board, takes Fay to the meetings
