He was aid de camp to Colonel George Washington 1755 to a time before the Forbes Expedition in 1758 when our Captain Mercer became Lt Col to Colonel Byrd's "The 2nd VA Regiment. " Our George Mercer was in a powerful family. His father had one of the largest libraries in the colony, and is why George Mason University has its library called Mercer's Library.
And our George Mercer was a contender for a Nation unto itself, wanting to be Governor of Vandalia.
