Fort Loudoun Day 14 May 2016

Fort Loudoun Day 14 MAY 2016 Saturday

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 419 N Loudoun St Winchester VA

Come See a Story. This coming Saturday.

Join a moment of revery of something that happened right here in Winchester VA in 1756.

George Washington designed this Fort. He supervised its construction. This was his headquarter fort to defend the "back country." The well his men blasted with black powder is still there.

Many Indian Allies walked up the Loudoun Street pedestrian mall and Indian Alley to a hill where once two hangings silhouetted the sky high above the town George Washington proclaimed to Lt Gov Dinwiddie.

See one example story, one among many, of the Cherokee allies who came here.

See the group representing one of Washington's Captains, his aid de cap.

And then there's James Wood. The founder of this town and clerk for Frederick County. He's walking around, sometimes clearing his throat so he can tell you about the bounty on buffalo he paid in this area, Copy of that is in the Handley Library Archives.

And Washington's Cartographers. This group will take you into the detailed knowledge of the era.

And Raleigh Boaze – Our speaker last year on Fort Loudoun Day.

After his speech on the Fated Braddock Campaign, he showed us his musket, the source of daily modern metaphors:

"flash in the pan, half cocked, cock sure, cocky, lock stock and barrel, keep your powder dry, buck = 1 dollar for a male deerskin."

Raleigh Boaze spoke of the clothing he made and how he made the rifle he carried.

But our FIRST TIME EVER appearance? You better see this.

Speaker: Tony Elar – 11:30am Topic: "Soldiers of the Virginia Regiment"

See more on this Fort Loudoun Day.
