Cherokee - its hawks and doves

.

Frustrated by Atkin and spurred by the desperate French, the Mortar and his faction strove harder to impel the Cherokees into further anti-English action. On July 28 in Keowee town house the conspirator Nehalatcho, son of the dead Malatchi of Coweta, and his confederate the Y3doung Twin offered the Lower Townsmen French ammunition and support. The Lower Townsmen agreed to go to war if the Creeks would join them.

On Aug 3 two Lower Town deputies left for Coweta Town with Nehalatcho.

Their intent was to trigger a Creek-Cherokee uprising to kill the English among them Aug 24.
